Chamber president meets with Nicola Sturgeon

 

 

Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce president, Stewart Rennie, met with the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon  today (21.11.16).

Mr Rennie was part of a Scottish Chambers delegation that took part in roundtable discussions in Glasgow. The 1 ½ hour long meeting covered a number of topics of interest to local businesses, including Brexit and the Scottish Business Rates revaluation due to take place in April.

There was specific discussion about potential upgrades to the A82 as it was recognised that this was a vital tourist route.

This was part of a series of meetings organised by Scottish Chambers during which representatives from Dunbartonshire Chamber have met with Keith Brown MSP, the Scottish Minister responsible for the Economy and David Mundell MP, the Scottish Secretary.

Mr Rennie commented "Meeting the First Minister I was able to hear at first hand her views on current topics which provided a great insight into Scottish Government thinking. It also enabled me to put forward the views of business to government and highlights the important representing and lobbying role the Dunbartonshire Chamber plays as the voice of business in region.”

Damon Scott, Chief Executive, Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce, added: “Chamber attendance at these meetings is a vital part of our work to represent the interests of business in Dunbartonshire. On this occasion improvements to infrastructure, and specifically the A82, were highlighted with the First Minister who asked for feedback. This is a key issue for West Dunbartonshire and would lead to business growth, investment and other economic impacts in the area such increasing its attractiveness as a destination. We will continue to have an input to this issue through our work as part of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce.”

At the end of the meeting it was agreed that follow-up meetings with members of the Scottish Cabinet would be arranged.
