BUSINESSES GO BACK TO SCHOOL AT OLSP SHOWCASE EVENT

Businesses went Back to School this week at a special showcase event at Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School organised by Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce.

Around 30 guests enjoyed the opportunity to see first-hand the fantastic environment in which the workforce of the future is being developed as well as finding out how the skills of the future are being nurtured.

Headteacher, Chris Smith, gave an insight into the design and build of Dunbartonshire’s newest school and, together with Developing the Young Workforce, highlighted the work and opportunities for businesses to link and feed-in to support the skills pipeline. Guests were then treated to a VIP tour of the building led by Chris Smith.

Damon Scott, Chief Executive, Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce, was glowing in his praise: “The new building is a shining example of the new approach to building design within the education sector in Scotland. It feels like a place that, as a young person, you would want to go.

“Consultation with and involvement of staff, parents and students in the design of the building has resulted in a modern, friendly, flexible and welcoming environment for all the end-users. Guests were really impressed with the state-of-the art facilities and the acoustic, light, heat and other environmental features.

“Importantly the event raised awareness of the school’s approach to inspiring learning and providing the students with the skills they will need once they become part of the workforce. We are also hoping to encourage businesses to get involved in this process as a result of the evening.

“Chamber Member, Your Radio, also had a presence at the event and are already making links with staff at Our Lady and St Patrick’s to see how they can promote broadcasting as a career option.”

Chris Smith added: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work alongside the Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce and have thoroughly enjoyed hosting this networking event in our brand-new school. Our new building has provided many opportunities for young people to develop their skills for life, learning and work. We are keen to forge further relationships with the Chamber and its partners to ensure that all young people from Our Lady and St Patrick’s continue to have access to wide range of these ongoing opportunities within their own communities and beyond.”
