Chamber pledges support for Dumbarton East Businesses

The Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce has pledged its support for businesses affected by the by the closures of Glasgow Road in Dumbarton East.

The business support organisation attended a meeting with West Dunbartonshire Council and FSB this week to look at ways to help by businesses impacted by the works to replace old metal gas mains being carried out by SGN.

Damon Scott, Chief Executive, Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The disruption these essential works have resulted in has inevitably affected the ability of many local businesses to trade normally. It is important that businesses have the support to help them through this difficult period to maximise the opportunities to drive trade and to ensure they are provided with guidance about what they can do about any loss of earnings.

“It is also important that there is continued engagement and communication regarding any on-going work and disruption. On the upside it looks like the end is now in sight now SGN have completed their work West Dunbartonshire Council will push to complete the road resurfacing within a 2 week period.”

Mr Scott was encouraged by the assurances given by the council and the commitment of all parties to collaborate: “We had a very productive discussion about the various ways we can all come together to help including: maximising signage to promote the “Open For Business” message, ongoing engagement and communication to establish what additional advice and information is needed as well as the compensation and financial support available.”
