Chamber Helping to Create a Nation of Lifesavers

Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce is supporting the drive to make Scotland a "Nation of Lifesavers".

As part of its new skills programme, "Building Bridges", the Chamber hosted an Emergency First Aid session for local schoolchildren facilitated by Chamber Member, St Andrew's First Aid.

30 primary 7 pupils from Clydemuir Primary School attended the event at the Chamber Business Hub in Clydebank along with teachers, Mrs Eccles and Mrs Barclay.

The session covered CPR and the dangers involved, CPR training using dummies, how to send for help and check for dangers. It also took in bandaging, broken bones and bleeding and how to deal with choking including the opportunity for the pupils to practice skills with St Andrew's volunteers / trainers.

Chamber Director, Sharon Colvan who is helping to develop the Building Bridges Skills Programme said: "The kids really enjoyed learning more about first aid and taking part in practical scenarios. First Aid is a really important practical life skill that could help save someone's life but also one that looks good on a CV."

This was the first event organised as part of the Chamber's Building Bridges programme which is designed to connect schools with business and develop skills in Dunbartonshire.

Sharon adds "We have had a lot of interest already both from businesses, partners and schools which is really positive. This first event is a great example of how we can connect one of our Chamber members, meeting some of their community engagement and corporate objectives and give new skills to young people in the area."
