FUTURE IS BRIGHT FOR JC ELECTRICAL & SECURITY SOLUTIONS

A Dunbartonshire business has been transformed from a one-man, home-based enterprise, to a company that employs 4 staff at new premises in just 2 years.

John Cooper decided to set up his own electrical and security business. JC Electrical and Security Solutions, after gaining 15 years of skills working in the offshore security industry with Seimens wind power, commissioning wind turbines all over Europe. He continued to work offshore for another 3 and a half years when the opportunity came up for him to fulfil his ambition to set up his own business. John won a contract with a company he was employed by previously which provided a steady level of income. After 6 months he was able to recruit his first employee from the local area to take on new contracts during the time he was offshore.

Since then JC Electrical and Security Services have added Subsea 7, Palmaris Services, Spie, Caledonian Electrical and SPG to an impressive and growing client list. As demand for wireless alarm and monitoring systems increased John, who lives in Old Kilpatrick, made the decision in November of last year to focus on building his business in Dunbartonshire full time. He now has another 3 employees from the area and has moved into new premises in John Knox Street in Yoker.

John attributes the relatively fast development of his company to the support that he received as a result of his chamber membership: “On joining the chamber, Chief Executive, Damon Scott, arranged a development session with me to find out more about my business and how he might help. We talked about the need for a business plan and the importance of finding the right support and suppliers to help me establish and grow the business. Damon made a personal introduction to an advisor at the Business Gateway whose start-up support was invaluable – particularly the help I got to develop a robust business plan. B-Able Business Services, based in Clydebank, also played an important part in setting up and managing my financial systems as well as providing a huge amount of additional advice and guidance to help me manage and grow the business.”

JC Electrical and Security is already a year ahead of the business plan, hopes to double last years’ turnover and over the next 2 years aims to grow further and acquire another business.

John has a strong affiliation with the area and is a keen member of the business community: “Setting up in Dunbartonshire was really important to me having lived here for more than 20 years. It is a wonderful place both to live and to do business with great facilities, business support and transport links. I am really excited about the future prospects for the company.”

Damon Scott, Chief Executive, Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Success stories like John’s are exactly why the chamber exists. We are here to encourage and support entrepreneurship and help support business growth and sustainability in Dunbartonshire. JC Electrical and Security Solutions is a great example of a company that has identified a demand and continues to respond to that by keeping up with all the latest developments in technology. They also tailor their services to the individual customer whether corporate or residential from small electrical work to full system installations including free initial quotations.”

“It’s testament to the range of benefits offered in our area that John chose a Dunbartonshire base and I am particularly delighted that he is using local suppliers including fellow-chamber member, B-Able Business Services.”
